Start with SignComet
Overview: before you start signing
Take a few minutes to set up your account, protect your vault and save a default signature. Then you can prepare and sign future agreements without recreating your signature each time.
- On public pages, optional analytics stays off until you accept. Either choice closes the cookie box. Use Cookie preferences at the bottom of a public page to change your choice. Analytics does not run in the workspace or signing pages.
- Use the homepage menu to explore How it works, Features, Why SignComet and Contact us. Links scroll smoothly to each section; enable reduced motion in your device settings if you prefer instant navigation.
- Create your account and verify your email. Use the address where you receive invitations. Open Settings & security to review your profile, account security, saved signatures and vault options before uploading your first agreement. The workspace's top navigation stays visible as you scroll; the logo stays at the top of the navigation sidebar.
- Set up your private vault and save the recovery kit somewhere safe. Your documents and saved signatures are stored encrypted; unlocking the vault lets this browser read and use them. Your account password signs you in, while your vault passphrase unlocks this protected content. Google sign-in does not replace vault unlock.
- In Settings & security, find Your saved signatures. Give your signature a name, choose Create signature, type or draw it, review the preview and choose Use signature to save it. The first saved signature becomes your default; choose Make default on another saved signature whenever you want to change it.
- Reuse your default on future agreements from the same account after unlocking your vault, including on another supported device. Select your assigned signature field and review the mark. A saved default saves time; it never agrees to or signs a document automatically. You still review the agreement and explicitly confirm Agree and sign.
- Expect to unlock your vault again after a refresh or a new browser session, when you lock it yourself, or after 15 minutes of inactivity. This limits how long private documents remain accessible if you step away. Your documents and saved signatures are not deleted when the vault locks. Enter your vault passphrase when prompted, rather than your account password.
- For a quicker return, optionally set up Easier vault unlock in Settings & security. In a supported browser you can then use your fingerprint, face or PIN. Keep your passphrase and recovery kit as fallbacks; a new browser or cleared site data can require them again.
- Choose New document and upload a PDF. Add the people who will sign and place their fields.
- Review the document, choose the signing order and send it for signatures.
- Each person reviews the document, fills their fields and confirms Agree and sign.
- When everyone has signed and completion finishes, download your completed PDF.
Keep your recovery kit private. Resetting an account password does not by itself unlock encrypted documents. For detailed walkthroughs, see Your account and help → Save your signature once for future documents, Use your fingerprint, face or PIN, and Recover access. Only signing a PDF yourself? The Quick signing topic explains the separate no-account option.
Create an account and verify your email
Use the email address where you want to receive signing invitations. If you were invited, use the exact address on the invitation.
- Choose Log in / Sign up from the homepage, then Create an account.
- Enter your name, email address and account password, then submit the form. You can also choose Continue with Google and complete Google's sign-in steps.
- If SignComet asks you to confirm your email, open the latest confirmation email and follow its instructions. Enter the confirmation code when the screen asks for it.
- If the message has not arrived, check spam and the spelling of your address. Use the resend option when it becomes available; use the newest code or link.
- Return to SignComet and sign in if prompted. Continue to private vault setup.
Your account password signs you in. Your vault passphrase unlocks your documents. They serve different purposes.
Set up your vault and save your recovery kit
Your vault protects your documents and saved signatures. Set it up once before using your workspace.
- Manually type a vault passphrase of at least 12 characters. Copy, cut, paste and drag-and-drop are disabled in vault passphrase fields. Choose something you can remember and keep private.
- Enter it again in Repeat passphrase, then choose Create private vault.
- Choose Download recovery kit. Store the file somewhere safe and separate from the device you normally use.
- After saving it, check I saved my recovery key somewhere safe and choose Continue.
- If offered, set up easier unlock with your fingerprint, face or PIN, or choose Skip for now to enter your workspace.
Never share your recovery kit or include it in a signing invitation. Resetting your account password cannot unlock your vault. If you lose both your vault passphrase and recovery key, your documents may be inaccessible.
Sign in, unlock, lock and sign out
Signing in opens your account; unlocking gives you access to your private workspace.
- Open Log in / Sign up. Enter your email and account password, or choose Continue with Google.
- Manually type your vault passphrase and choose Unlock vault. If configured in this browser, you can use fingerprint, face or PIN instead.
- Use the account menu to lock your vault when stepping away. Unlock it again to continue. An idle session may lock automatically.
- Choose Sign out from the account menu when finished, especially on a shared device.
- If the service is temporarily unavailable, wait a moment and retry. Avoid submitting a new signing request just because a page is slow.
The production address is https://signcomet.com. Links from the earlier trial address redirect here. You may need to sign in again and add fingerprint, face or PIN unlock again on this address. Your documents, account password, vault passphrase and recovery kit stay unchanged.
Prepare a document
Upload a PDF and find your way around
Start from Documents in your workspace. Account uploads become saved drafts that you can prepare before sending.
- Choose New document and select your PDF. If it has a password, enter it in the PDF password dialog and choose Unlock PDF.
- Read through the pages using scrolling, page navigation and zoom. Confirm that the page layout looks right.
- The left sidebar groups controls with horizontal dividers: AI access at the top, followed by People and signing order, Fields and layout, Reminders and deadline, and Draft and templates. Hover over, focus or tap an information icon beside a heading or label for help. Press Escape or tap elsewhere to close it. Use Document insights on the right to review the PDF.
- On a narrow screen, switch between the editor's sections to reach the tools, document and insights.
- Check the save status before leaving. Save progress lets you retry a pending save.
Upload a PDF within the limits shown by the app. Certified or field-locked PDFs and password-protected PDFs with existing digital signatures are not supported. Ask the sender for a suitable copy if import is refused. An unlocked signing copy does not retain the original PDF password.
Add people and choose the signing order
Decide who needs to sign before placing their fields. Adding an address does not send an invitation yet.
- Enter an address in Recipient email and choose Add recipient. Repeat for everyone who needs to sign.
- Review every address carefully. People can be added even if they do not yet have a SignComet account.
- Drag the handle beside a person to another row to change their position. You can also focus a handle and press Arrow Up or Arrow Down. Your field assignments stay with the same people. Choose One after another for signing in this order, or Everyone at once to let recipients sign independently.
- Include everyone who needs to sign, including yourself. Click each field on the document and choose its person using Assign to in the field popup. Reassigning a filled field clears its existing answer or signature.
- Remove an incorrect recipient while still preparing the draft, then check the remaining fields before sending.
Recipients need to verify the invited email and set up their own vault. Forwarding an invitation to a different address does not give that person access.
Place, move and resize fields
Every fillable field belongs to a person. Place it where that person should provide their information.
- Place a field, click it to open its settings, and choose the recipient in Assign to.
- Choose Signature, Initials, Text, Date or Checkbox in the tools, then click or tap the desired place on the PDF. The tool deselects after one placement. Select it again to add another field.
- Drag the field into position. Use its corner handle to resize it. Alignment guides help line up nearby fields; hold Alt while dragging on a keyboard to move freely.
- Click a field to open its settings and review whether it is Required. For text labels, dates and checkboxes, choose Field font and Ink color before sending. Click outside the field and its popup to close settings. Use the position and size to match the PDF.
- Use the field's remove control for an item you do not need. Check each page and each recipient before sending. Arrow keys can help you position a selected field precisely.
A field assigned to someone else must be completed by that person. Adding an image of your signature to the draft does not submit your final signing consent.
Add signatures and initials
Use Signature for a full signature and Initials for the shorter mark requested on a page.
- Select the intended recipient, choose Signature or Initials, and place the field on the PDF.
- For your own signature while preparing, click the field and choose Add my signature. For someone else's signature, leave the field for them to fill.
- In the signature dialog, type your name or initials and choose a Signature font, or choose Draw and make your mark. Choose Ink color to match your PDF. Changing the color keeps your drawn strokes. Review the preview and choose Use signature.
- If you have saved signatures, choose one from the picker. A default signature may be applied automatically; select the field again if you want a different saved signature.
- Review the placement. For a shared agreement, you must still confirm Agree and sign after the request is sent.
Add text, dates and checkboxes
Use these fields for details such as a name, address, signing date or acknowledgement.
- Choose Text, Date or Checkbox and place the field. Click it and choose the person in Assign to in its popup. Every signer needs at least one required field before you can send.
- Resize text boxes to fit the expected answer. Text grows with its box up to 36 pt; use Preview to check readability.
- To complete your own text field while preparing, click it and type into Text in its popup. Changes appear directly on the PDF. For a date, choose a day directly in the themed calendar in the popup. Use the month and year dropdowns to change the displayed month, or use Today or Clear. For a checkbox, choose Fill my field.
- Before sending, select text, date or checkbox fields and choose Field font and Ink color in their settings. These styles are kept for the recipient and the downloaded PDF. For another person's field, leave it ready for them to fill.
- When signing, fill your assigned fields and check the document before confirming. Required items must be completed before submission.
Text fields currently accept basic Latin characters and up to 120 characters. Resize the box and check its preview if the answer is long. Date shows a calendar in its popup and applies your selection immediately. New fields and newly created signatures start with black ink; saved colors stay unchanged.
Add horizontal and vertical lines
Lines help divide sections or create a visual signing area. They are part of the page, not something a recipient fills in.
- Choose Horizontal line or Vertical line in the document tools.
- Click or tap the PDF to place the line.
- The line tool deselects after placement. Select it again to add another line. Move or resize a placed line to fit your layout and align it with the surrounding fields.
- Remove unwanted lines before sending and review how they look on every affected page.
Preview the document before sending
Preview gives you a read-only view of the page with the marks you have added. It does not send or sign the agreement.
- Choose Preview at the top of the editor while preparing or reviewing a signing request.
- Scroll through the pages and check the placement and readability of signatures, text and lines.
- Empty fields are hidden each time you open Preview. Turn on Show empty fields to see where answers are still needed.
- Return to the editor to make any permitted changes. Sending and Agree and sign are separate actions.
Save, reopen and recover a draft
A draft is your preparation space. You can still change the document setup because no signing request has been sent.
- While preparing an account document, watch the save status. Wait for All changes saved before leaving.
- Return to your workspace and open the draft from Saved drafts to continue later.
- If the status says cloud sync is pending, keep the same browser data and choose Save progress when your connection returns.
- If the app says the draft is open in another tab, return to that tab or close it before editing here.
- If a conflict offers Save a copy, use it to keep your version separately. To discard a draft, choose Delete draft and review the confirmation.
Device-only recovery depends on using the same browser and retaining its data. Do not clear site data while unsynced work remains. Quick signing does not have draft recovery.
Create a template for repeated paperwork
A template is a reusable arrangement of fields and lines. Create the layout once instead of placing the same boxes from scratch on every similar PDF. For example, save a layout for your regular service agreement and use it with the next customer's PDF.
- From Documents, choose New document and select a representative PDF. You can also choose Create template in the Templates workspace and select a PDF to begin.
- Place the signature, initials, text, date and checkbox fields you need. Adjust their size, page position and Required setting, and add any lines.
- Choose Preview and check every page. Use a consistent page layout for documents you plan to reuse with this template.
- Choose Save field template in the editor's tools panel. If it is not visible, scroll down in that panel. You need at least one field to save a template.
- Wait for Encrypted field layout saved, then return to Templates. Find the new card by the PDF's name and its field and page counts.
- Keep editing or leave the draft when its save is complete. Saving a template does not send that draft to anyone or submit a signature.
A template keeps field positions, sizes, types, fonts, ink colors, required settings and lines. It is not a saved blank PDF, a saved recipient list or a collection of filled answers and signatures. The source draft remains separate.
Use a template with a new PDF
Apply a saved layout to a fresh agreement, then personalize it for the people signing this time. The original template stays available for future documents.
- Sign in, unlock your vault and open Templates. Find the saved layout you want to reuse.
- Choose Use with a PDF on its card and select the new PDF. For example, select the new customer's service agreement with the same page layout.
- The editor creates a new draft with the saved fields and lines. Previous answers and signature images are not filled in. The imported fields initially belong to you.
- Add this agreement's recipients. For fields another person should fill, click each inherited field and choose that person in Assign to in its popup. Each signer needs at least one required field.
- Check all pages, especially if the new PDF has a different page count or layout. Move or remove misplaced fields and lines, and add any missing fields.
- Choose the signing order, reminder schedule, deadline and recipient AI permission for this new request. Those choices do not come from the template. Preview, save and choose Send for signatures when ready.
- To keep a revised layout, choose Save field template to create another template. Remove an obsolete layout using Delete template and its confirmation. This does not delete documents already created from it.
- If a template upload was interrupted, use Resume upload in Templates from the same browser and unlocked vault, or Discard it if no longer needed.
Using a template saves preparation time, not the review step. Always check the new PDF and the people assigned to its fields before sending.
Send and follow progress
Choose a signing flow: in order or together
SignComet has two signing flows. One after another is sequential signing: each person's turn follows the previous signer. Everyone at once is parallel signing: everyone can sign independently. “Together” does not mean people need to meet or sign at the same time.
- While preparing the draft, add the recipients and assign at least one required field to each signer.
- Find Signing order in the tools panel. Hover over, focus or tap its information icon for an explanation of both options. Choose One after another when a particular person must sign before the next person, such as a customer before a manager.
- New documents default to Everyone at once. Use this when no signing order is needed, such as two business partners who can review and sign independently.
- Review the people shown and their fields before choosing Send for signatures. With One after another, the displayed recipient order controls the turns. The sender is included first by default; remove and add people as needed while still drafting, then recheck their fields.
- Every recipient still signs in with the invited address, unlocks their vault, reviews the document and confirms Agree and sign. Neither flow lets you sign for somebody else.
- Both flows finish only after every required signer has submitted and SignComet has finished preparing the completed PDF. If one person has not signed, the document is not complete.
Example: Alice → Bob → Carol means Bob waits for Alice, then Carol waits for Bob. With Everyone at once, Carol may finish first, Alice next and Bob last. Both produce one completed agreement after all three signatures. Choose the flow before sending; changing a sent agreement requires a new request.
One after another: follow each signing turn
Use sequential signing when the order matters. Think of passing one agreement from the first signer to the next, while everyone keeps their own assigned fields.
- Before sending, set Signing order to One after another. Check the displayed order carefully. Example: Alice first, Bob second, Carol third.
- Send the request. Alice is the first person able to submit a signature. If Alice is the sender, she must still review the document, check the consent box and choose Agree and sign.
- Bob and Carol may be able to open the agreement once their account and vault access are ready, but they cannot submit before their turn. Opening a document is not the same as being allowed to sign next.
- When Alice signs, Bob becomes the next signer and receives a signing-turn notification. Carol continues waiting. Reminders target the current unsigned signer, not people whose turn has not arrived.
- When Bob signs, Carol can review and sign her fields. Watch the signer list and Activity to follow these changes.
- After Carol submits, the document enters finalization and then Completed. Everyone with access can open the finished document and use its download options.
If the current person has not verified their invited email or set up their vault, the sequence can wait there. Ask them to finish setup or contact the sender. A decline, cancellation or expiry ends the request; it does not silently skip that person.
Everyone at once: sign independently
Use parallel signing when everyone can make their own decision without waiting for a previous signature. Recipients can sign at different times and from different devices.
- Before sending, set Signing order to Everyone at once. Assign each recipient their own fields and check the addresses.
- Choose Send for signatures. Every recipient whose account and document access are ready can sign without waiting for another recipient to finish.
- Each person opens the invitation or their workspace, reads the PDF, fills their own fields, checks consent and chooses Agree and sign.
- For example, Carol may sign before Alice or Bob. The progress count increases as each submission is recorded; Carol's completed step does not mean the whole request is complete.
- People who have signed wait for the remaining signers. Reminders target eligible unsigned recipients. A new recipient still needs to verify the invited email and set up their vault.
- The last required signature starts finalization. Once Completed appears, open Download for the final agreement and completion information.
Everyone at once is not a group signing session or one shared signature. Each person signs only their own fields and gives their own consent. A decline, cancellation or expiry stops the request rather than removing the missing signature requirement.
Review and send for signatures
Sending turns your draft into a shared signing request. Take one final look before inviting everyone.
- Read the PDF and check every recipient address, field assignment and required field.
- Confirm the signing order. Decide whether to add reminders or a deadline, and whether recipients may use optional Gemini explanations.
- Wait for your draft to save, then choose Send for signatures. If a typed address is first added as a recipient, review its fields and choose Send again when ready.
- SignComet opens the signing view and queues the invitations or signing-turn notifications.
- If you are also a signer, review your prepared signature and complete the consent step. Sending alone does not sign on your behalf.
Once sent, the agreed document and field layout cannot be edited as a draft. If the content is wrong, cancel the active request and prepare a new one so everyone reviews the corrected version.
Set reminders and a signing deadline
Reminders nudge the people who can sign next. A deadline closes the signing window.
- In the draft, choose Automatic reminders: Off, Every day, Every 3 days or Every week.
- Optionally enter Signing deadline using the local date and time shown by your device.
- After sending, the sender can choose Edit reminders and deadline, adjust the settings and choose Save schedule.
- After sending, find Remind now in Signing schedule in the left sidebar. It works even when automatic reminders are off. A one-hour cooldown prevents repeated reminders; a manual reminder also resets the recurring interval.
- Check Activity for the schedule changes and queued reminders. Queued does not mean delivered to an inbox.
Automatic reminders may take up to about 15 minutes after they become due. A deadline still prevents late signing when someone attempts to sign. Reminders stop when the request ends and target unsigned people whose turn has arrived.
Understand every stage of signing
The document moves from preparation through signing and completion. Workspace filters describe what needs your attention, rather than always naming a separate document state.
- Draft: you are still preparing. You can change recipients, fields and settings before sending.
- Awaiting signatures: the request is active. Needs your signature means you have signing work to do; Waiting for others means someone else needs to act.
- Waiting for access: an invited person may need to verify the invited email, create their vault, or wait for access to be released. This is different from waiting for their signing turn.
- Waiting for your turn: with One after another, earlier people must finish before you can submit your signature.
- Finalizing: all signatures are being assembled into the completed document. Keep the page open and follow any completion or retry instructions.
- Completed: the final document is ready. Open Download to choose your copy and review the completion information.
- Declined, Cancelled or Expired: the signing request has ended without normal completion. A corrected or renewed agreement needs a new signing request.
- Trash: the document is hidden from your main library. This is your personal organization choice, not a change to the agreement or other people's access.
Use Activity to see who has done what
Activity is your overview of an agreement's progress and history. Use it to answer questions such as “Who still needs to sign?”, “When was it sent?” and “Did this request end?”. It does not sign or change the document.
- Unlock your workspace and choose Activity in the left navigation. Each row represents one agreement you can access.
- Read the document name, co-signers, current status, signed count, Created time and Updated time. A count such as 1 / 3 means one of three signers has submitted, not that the agreement is finished.
- Search by document name or co-signer. Choose the number of rows to display and use Previous or Next when there are more results.
- Select the expand arrow on the agreement's row to open its history without opening the PDF. Read the event, person and time together.
- Follow events such as Sent for signing, Document displayed, Signed and Completed. Reminder and deadline updates, cancellation, decline or expiry explain why the request changed.
- Choose Refresh activity to check for newer events. Expanded histories have their own pagination. Activity does not continuously refresh in the background, so refresh before relying on an old view.
- Return to Documents and open the agreement if you want to read, sign or download it. Activity is a history view, not a replacement for those actions.
Document displayed means the app recorded a viewing event; it is not proof someone read or understood every page. Signed records a submitted signature. Completed means the finished agreement is ready. Personal Move to Trash and Restore events do not cancel the shared request.
Understand invitation and email activity
Email observations explain delivery progress. They are separate from the document's signing history: receiving or opening an email is not the same as signing.
- Open Activity, find the agreement and expand its history. As the sender, review available observations for your recipients; another participant sees only their own email observations.
- Email queued means a message is waiting to be sent. Email accepted by provider means the sending service accepted it; neither status proves delivery to the recipient.
- Invitation email delivered means the recipient's mail server accepted it. The message can still be in spam or another folder, so ask the recipient to check there if necessary.
- First email open and First email link click are estimates. Privacy tools can hide an open, and mail scanners can trigger a click. Do not treat either as consent or as proof of a signature.
- Bounced or blocked means delivery encountered a problem. Delayed means delivery has been deferred. Check the invited address and ask the recipient to check their inbox; use available reminder controls when appropriate.
- Choose Refresh activity for newer observations. If tracking is unavailable, previously recorded events remain visible; a missing update does not mean the email was never received.
- Use the separate Signed and Completed events to confirm signing progress. Recipients can also sign in with their invited address and check Documents without waiting for an email.
Some older invitations may not have email observations. Historical messages are not filled in automatically. An unknown or missing tracking result is not a delivery failure.
Receive and sign
Open an invitation and get access
You do not need an existing SignComet account to be invited. You do need to use the invited email address.
- Open the invitation link. Sign in, or create an account using the exact invited email address.
- Verify your email if prompted, then create or unlock your vault.
- Open the agreement from the invitation or your Documents workspace. Before access is ready, you may see a private placeholder title.
- Follow the waiting-screen instructions if access is not yet available. For new invitations, access can usually be released after verification and vault setup even when the sender is offline.
- If the invitation is older or access still needs the sender, ask them to unlock their workspace. If the request has ended, ask for a new invitation.
For a new recipient, SignComet temporarily manages access to the document while their vault is being set up. That access window is limited to 30 days. Keep your recovery kit private; the sender never needs it.
Review, fill your fields and sign
Always read the agreement before confirming. Your signature is submitted only when you explicitly agree.
- Read every page. Use zoom and Document insights to review passages if helpful.
- If it is not your turn, wait for the previous signer. Otherwise, select each field assigned to you.
- Add your signature or initials, enter requested text and dates, and complete required checkboxes. Check the marks and answers on the page.
- Select the review-and-consent checkbox only when you are ready, then choose Agree and sign.
- Wait for confirmation. If others still need to sign, the document stays active. If you are last, wait for completion before downloading.
Choosing Use signature fills the field. It is not the final Agree and sign step. You cannot submit another person's assigned fields on their behalf.
Decline, cancel or handle an expired request
If something is wrong, stop and resolve it with the sender rather than signing an agreement you do not accept.
- As an eligible recipient, use Decline when you do not agree to an active request. Follow the confirmation and any reason prompt shown.
- As the sender, use the cancellation action on an active request when it should no longer be signed. Review the confirmation before proceeding.
- When the signing deadline passes, the request becomes expired and further signatures are blocked.
- For a correction or renewed deadline after the request has ended, prepare a new request and have everyone review it again.
Ending a request does not erase its existing history. Completed documents are not reopened by changing a deadline, moving them to Trash or sending a reminder.
Download the completed agreement
When completion finishes, keep the version appropriate to your needs and preserve its completion information.
- Open the completed document and choose Download.
- Choose Download sealed PDF for the completed copy with the Certificate of Completion and SignComet's seal.
- Choose Download document-only copy if you need the document without the completion pages. Keep the sealed copy as well when you need the completion record.
- Use the available certificate and evidence options to review or save the signing record. Keep evidence with the matching agreement.
- If finalization or an upload was interrupted, reopen the document in the same browser and follow its recovery instructions. Wait until the completed download is available.
SignComet's current seal is self-signed. A PDF viewer may not trust it automatically. It is not a publicly trusted certificate or an independent timestamp, and preserving an earlier PDF signature does not establish that signature's trust.
Sign a PDF on this device without an account
Quick signing is for adding your own marks and downloading a PDF in one session.
- In the homepage footer, choose Guest PDF signing, then Choose a PDF. You can also choose Sign a PDF on this device on the login page. No login is needed.
- Place signature, initials, text, date or checkbox fields as needed. Select each field to add your mark or fill it.
- Use lines and positioning controls to tidy the layout, then review all pages.
- Download your PDF before closing, refreshing or leaving the page.
Quick signing does not save a draft or send invitations. It does not include verified signer identity, the shared signing audit or a completion certificate. Use an account document when other people need to sign.
AI and Talk to your PDF
Read your automatic document overview
Overview automatically gathers a short summary and key points using the document’s own wording. It runs on your device without sending the PDF to Google.
- Open a document and start reading the PDF. Once its first page appears, Overview is prepared in the background and shows a loader until ready. There are no filters, questions or settings to fill in.
- Read Summary for a quick introduction, then Key points for the main details in a short bullet list.
- Scanned pages are read in the background, and the overview updates as text becomes available. If a page cannot be read, check it in the PDF.
- Use Search to find specific wording or return to the PDF for the full context. The overview uses selected source wording and may not cover every detail.
- Continue reviewing and signing normally. The overview does not change the agreement or submit a signature.
The overview and extracted text can miss or misread information. Read the actual page before making a signing decision.
Find wording privately on your device
Use private search when you know a word or phrase to look for. It finds matching text rather than answering a conversational question.
- In Document insights, select Search.
- Enter a word or phrase in Find a word or phrase. All matches are highlighted throughout the PDF as you type. Try payment, notice or a phrase from the agreement.
- Press Enter in the search box to jump to the first match. Press Enter again to move to the next match; after the last match, it starts again at the first. You can also select any result to jump straight to it. The selected match is darker while other matches stay highlighted.
- If there are no matches, try a shorter phrase or different wording. For scanned pages, let text recognition finish and check its results against the page.
- If you want an explanation in everyday language instead, the Ask tab offers questions and answers after you agree to share the PDF. You can keep using private search without enabling it.
Private search and the on-device overview do not send your document to an AI provider. They are reading tools within your existing document workflow, not a replacement for reviewing every page.
Read text from scanned pages
Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages. Text recognition can make their wording searchable.
- Open Overview in Document insights. Low-text pages can be recognized in the background.
- English text recognition starts automatically for pages with little readable text; no scan settings are needed.
- Give scanned pages a little time to become searchable. If text does not appear, check the original page; you can reopen the document to try again.
- Search the recognized text, then verify every important number, name and clause against the image.
Recognition happens on your device and does not change the PDF. Results depend on scan quality, language and device performance.
Talk to your PDF with optional AI
Ask Gemini to explain or summarize your PDF in everyday language. This optional cloud feature shares the original PDF and your submitted question with Google; the on-device overview and private search remain available without it.
- Select Enable Gemini for this document in the left sidebar. Ask opens immediately in Document insights with a brief highlight. On a phone, the view switches to Insights so the chat is visible. Recipients see Ask when the sender has allowed access. Opening Ask sends nothing.
- The left-sidebar AI checkbox includes permission to share; its information icon explains that you and the people you share the document with can send the PDF and questions to Google Gemini. There is no second consent checkbox in Ask. Its information icon provides details about sharing, sources and chat history.
- In Ask, write a question such as: What payment is due, and when? Quote the relevant passage. Select Talk with PDF. To request a summary instead, leave the question empty and select Talk with PDF.
- While the answer is being prepared, a loader appears in Ask and Talk with PDF is disabled. Responses use short sections and bullet points. Scroll the conversation to read longer answers; the tabs stay at the top and the question box and Talk with PDF button stay at the bottom. Expand Sources to review quotations and open matching passages in the PDF. You can ask another question, but include the context each time: previous messages are not sent with the next request.
- Overview and Search show the On device label because they run locally, even with AI enabled. Ask shows Optional AI. Switching tabs cannot undo information already sent. The chat is only visible to you and clears when you leave; it is not a shared conversation with the sender or other signers.
- Continue with your usual review and signing steps. Asking AI does not change the agreement, send an invitation or sign on your behalf.
Turning AI off cannot undo information already sent. Quick signing does not use cloud AI. If Gemini is unavailable, the private reading tools remain available.
Check AI sources and recipient permissions
AI explanations are a reading aid. The sender controls whether recipients may use Gemini, and each person still chooses whether to share a request.
- Expand Sources beneath an answer to see its quotations. Select a matching quotation to view it in the PDF. A matched quotation does not mean the entire answer is correct or legally reliable.
- Select an available quotation to inspect its page. A machine-read match still needs comparison with the scanned page, especially names, dates and amounts.
- Treat a quotation marked Not matched as unsupported: its source button is unavailable. Find the wording yourself and do not rely on the answer if the PDF does not support it.
- As the sender, use Enable Gemini for this document to decide whether recipients may access this option. Enabling it opens Ask directly; disabling it removes Ask access.
- As a recipient, select Talk with PDF only when you want to share the original PDF and your question with Google. Permission from the sender does not automatically send the PDF or ask a question for you.
- If AI is unavailable or a request fails, continue reading the PDF, using the on-device overview or searching privately. AI is optional throughout the signing process.
AI can miss details or give incorrect explanations. Check the original document and seek appropriate advice for decisions that need it; an AI answer is not legal advice or a signing decision.
Your account and help
Update your profile and saved signatures
Open Settings & security from your account menu to manage your personal workspace.
- Update your display name and profile photo using the profile controls, then save your changes.
- In saved signatures, enter a Signature name and choose Create signature.
- Type or draw the mark, review it and choose Use signature to save it.
- Choose a default signature to make filling your fields quicker, or remove saved signatures you no longer use.
Changing or removing a saved signature does not rewrite signatures already submitted on an agreement.
Save your signature once for future documents
Create your usual signature once, give it a name, and keep it in your vault. You can then use the same mark on future SignComet agreements instead of typing or drawing it every time.
- Sign in, unlock your vault and open Settings & security. Find Your saved signatures.
- Enter a Signature name such as Full name or Short signature. This is the label you will use to recognize it later.
- Choose Create signature. Select Type, enter your name and choose a Signature font, or select Draw and make your signature. Choose Ink color for either mode. Use Clear to start again if needed.
- Check the preview and choose Use signature. Wait for Signature saved securely in your vault and confirm the new card appears. Its font and color stay with the saved image when you reuse it, including on another device. Create another saved variation for a different style.
- The first saved signature becomes your default. To switch, choose Make default on another card. The Default signature badge identifies the current choice.
- Save additional variations if needed, up to 10 signatures. Delete signature removes a saved choice after confirmation; if you remove the default, another saved signature becomes the default when one remains.
Saving a signature does not sign any agreement. Your saved library is available when you sign into the same SignComet account and unlock its vault, including on another supported browser or device. It does not automatically fill signatures in other apps or websites.
Use a saved signature on your next agreement
A saved signature saves you from recreating the mark. You still choose where to use it and approve each agreement separately.
- Open the new agreement using the same account and unlock your vault. Check that the signature field belongs to you.
- While preparing your own field, select it and choose Add my signature. While signing an invitation, select your assigned signature field when it is your turn.
- If you have a default, SignComet can place it immediately. Review the result on the page; this is only a filled field, not a submitted signature.
- To use a different mark, select the field again or use Change my signature. In Choose a saved signature, choose the named preview you want. You can also choose the create-new option for a different mark.
- Repeat for your other signature fields, and complete any remaining initials, text, date or checkbox fields. Review the whole document.
- For a shared request, check the consent box and choose Agree and sign. A sender's prepared signature also needs this confirmation after sending.
For example, save Full name for contracts and Short signature for a compact signing box. Choosing one on this document does not mean every future document is automatically signed. Deleting or changing the saved library does not rewrite signatures already placed or submitted.
Use your fingerprint, face or PIN
Easier vault unlock is optional. Keep your passphrase and recovery kit even after setting it up.
- Sign in and unlock your vault, then open Settings & security → Easier vault unlock. Tap, hover over, or focus the info icon beside a card title for more details.
- Choose the setup action and follow your device's verification prompt.
- Next time, choose Use fingerprint, face or PIN on the vault screen in the same browser.
- If the device does not support it, setup is cancelled, or the option fails, use your vault passphrase instead.
- You can remove this browser's setup in Settings. Set it up again after changing vault protection if prompted.
This unlocks your vault; it does not replace account sign-in. A new browser, cleared site data or a changed site address may require your passphrase or recovery key.
Recover access or replace your recovery kit
First identify whether you forgot your account password or your vault passphrase.
- For an account password, choose Forgot password? on the login screen and follow the latest recovery email. Google users can use their Google sign-in path.
- For a vault passphrase, use the recovery option on the vault screen. Enter the recovery key from your saved kit, then manually type and repeat a new vault passphrase. Recovery keys can still be pasted from your saved kit.
- To replace an old recovery kit while you still have access, open Settings & security → Vault recovery.
- Confirm your identity using the offered account password or Google confirmation. For Google, return to the original tab after confirmation.
- Download the replacement kit, complete the requested verification and activate it. Only after activation should you treat the new kit as the current one.
An account password reset does not recover your documents by itself. Replacing recovery protection keeps your documents, but the previous recovery key no longer works with the current vault setup. Never send a recovery key to support.
Review account deletion
Account deletion is different from signing out, removing a saved signature or moving a document to Trash.
- Open Settings & security → Account security and choose Review account deletion. Read the visible consequences before continuing; the info icon explains retention and unfinished agreements.
- Review the deletion information and any blockers shown by the app. Resolve those blockers before continuing.
- Confirm your identity with your account password or the offered Google confirmation.
- Type DELETE when requested and read the final confirmation before proceeding.
Shared agreements and evidence may remain for other participants. Do not treat account deletion as a way to erase a previously signed agreement. Save any copies you need before proceeding.
When something does not work
Start with the message on screen. Most interruptions can be resolved without creating a second signing request.
- Cannot sign in: check the email address, use the same sign-in method and retry the latest confirmation or recovery link. Wait briefly if the service is restarting.
- Cannot unlock: use the vault passphrase, not the account password. Try your recovery kit if you forgot it.
- Cannot see an invitation: sign in with the exact invited email, verify it and set up the vault. Ask the sender to check the address or unlock if access is waiting.
- Cannot sign: check whose turn it is, required fields, your consent checkbox and whether the request has expired, been cancelled or been declined.
- Upload or save interrupted: preserve the same browser data, check your connection and use Save progress or the offered Resume upload action.
- PDF refused or text looks wrong: check the supported file limits, ask for an unrestricted PDF, and compare extracted or recognized text with the actual page.
- Still stuck: use Contact us from the homepage. Describe the action and the message you saw. Do not send passwords, recovery keys or confidential document contents.
